SAU keeps a single state list for all of its nursing programs, and Ohio sits on the authorized side of it (checked September 2026). Only four states are left off: Louisiana, New York, Alabama and Arizona. By program group, it works out like this.

The course numbers come from the 2023-24 Graduate Catalog, the newest one we could read in full. Your current course list in Brightspace, or your advisor, has the final word on numbering.

02What Ohio law says about your NP rotation

Ohio asks nothing of nursing programs headquartered elsewhere: no approval, no notice. What it offers instead is a student carve-out in ORC 4723.32(F): someone enrolled in an APRN program may do the work that program requires, under its auspices, while an advanced practice registered nurse acting as faculty, teaching assistant or preceptor oversees them.

SAU's catalog lets three kinds of clinician precept NP students: certified NPs, physicians and PAs. Because the Ohio carve-out names APRN supervision, ask the program director how SAU treats an Ohio rotation led by a physician or PA before you commit to one. An Ohio NP as your preceptor avoids the question entirely.

AANP ranks Ohio as a reduced-practice state. Ohio NPs hold a standard care arrangement for their whole careers, with a physician or podiatrist collaborating, so many of them work inside physician-led groups.

03Where Ohio students start looking

SAU's online FAQ says you will choose your own preceptor in your home state, so the search begins where you live. OhioHealth, University Hospitals, Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, Mercy Health and Cleveland Clinic are the state's biggest health systems, each with outpatient practices to approach. Independent family practices, internal medicine groups, urgent care and community clinics are all settings SAU has named for clinicals.

Population is concentrated around Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Dayton, but a small-town practice that has hosted students before can be the quicker yes. SAU's program director keeps a list of nearby providers who have offered to host SAU students, so ask for it, and check whether your target site already has an affiliation agreement in place with SAU. FNP and PMHNP students can also ask about the clinical partner network their 2026 program pages mention; no partners are named, so treat it as a lead.

04Your RN license for Ohio clinical hours

The 2023-24 catalog wants a current RN license with no restrictions, valid in whatever state you practice in, and the online FAQ ties it to your state of employment. Ohio started honoring Nurse Licensure Compact licenses on January 1, 2023, so an Ohio multistate license, or one issued by the compact state where you live, covers RN practice here. Most MSN students also make one trip north: the four-day NUR 602R residency on SAU's main campus in Spring Arbor, Michigan, which the 2023-24 catalog lists as a prerequisite for every practicum.
