Spring Arbor clinicals in Nevada
Nevada is on Spring Arbor's authorized list, yet it asks more of visiting programs than most states do. You'll need a Nevada RN license, and the state's rules require board approval before an internet-delivered program teaches clinicals in Nevada. SAU's list is the first gate, not the last. Faculty approve every preceptor and site per rotation, and Nevada adds its own layer, described below. Our state authorization page has SAU's full list.

02Nevada's rule for programs taught from elsewhere
NAC 632.703 is the rule to know. A school running part of its program in Nevada files a report on the Board's form with proof of accreditation, evidence it complies with Nevada's nursing statutes and regulations, and yearly school reports. Board approval must come before an online or otherwise nontraditional program offers clinical instruction in Nevada, and faculty teaching there need Nevada licenses. Nothing in the rule sets graduate programs apart from pre-licensure ones.
Nevada's Board publishes which out-of-state schools may run only the clinical portion of a program in the state. The version updated September 1, 2026 names pre-licensure programs alone. SAU doesn't publish its Nevada standing either way, so ask your program director whether Board approval covers your SAU track, or whether it's needed, before you approach a site.
03How Nevada wants precepted clinicals run
A 2005 Board practice decision sets the ground rules. Faculty stay responsible for each clinical experience and must answer by phone; on-site preceptors supervise two students at most; and every preceptor receives an orientation and written objectives from the school. SAU's faculty already send preceptors the objectives for each rotation, which fits that model.
04NP practice and where to look
AANP counts Nevada as full practice. The exception is Schedule II prescribing, which a new NP can do only under a physician-approved protocol until 2,000 hours or two full years of clinical work are logged. SAU's 2023-24 catalog leaves room for certified NPs, physicians and PAs as NP preceptors.
Las Vegas-Henderson-North Las Vegas dwarfs everything else, with Reno a distant second and Carson City much smaller. In Reno the name is Renown Health; around Las Vegas, students contact The Valley Health System, Dignity Health, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada and Sunrise Health System. Arizona is not authorized for SAU nursing, so a site across that border won't work.
05Licensing: Nevada only
Nevada has never joined the compact, which leaves out-of-state multistate licenses without force here. A Board practice decision goes further: anyone caring for patients located in Nevada, nursing education with direct patient contact included, needs a Nevada license. Will my out-of-state license work for Nevada clinicals?
No, you need a Nevada RN license. Nevada sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, and the Board's position is that anyone giving care to patients in Nevada, students in direct patient contact included, holds a Nevada license. A multistate license from another state won't cover it.
Is Spring Arbor approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing?
SAU doesn't publish that, and the Board's September 2026 list of schools approved for clinicals only names pre-licensure programs. NAC 632.703 requires Board approval before an online program gives clinical instruction in Nevada, so ask your program director to confirm your track's status in writing.
How many students can my Nevada preceptor supervise?
Two at a time, under the Board's 2005 practice decision on precepted clinicals. The preceptor must also be on site, program faculty must be reachable by phone, and the school provides an orientation and written objectives. Mention any other students your preceptor hosts when you submit them.
Could I do rotations in Arizona instead?
No. SAU lists Arizona among the states without authorization for its nursing programs, so an Arizona site can't count toward an SAU course. If Nevada turns out to be difficult for your track, raise it with your program director rather than looking across that border.
